Working with progressive local businesses to support our independent programming
Greetings, friends, and Happy New Year. My name is Justin Miller and I’d like to thank everyone in the community for all of the ways you have found to support KBOO; you help make it all possible!
As KBOO’s Director of Underwriting, my role is to work with local and regional businesses to support our independent programming while helping them craft messages that inform our listeners about the work they do. One of my favorite aspects of the job is representing KBOO’s progressive values to like-minded business owners. Because we are perhaps the most stringent station in the nation in terms of from whom we’ll accept underwriting support, I spend my days working with people who share KBOO’s values of peace, justice, multiculturalism, and positive social change. I don’t deal in jingles or hyperbole, and neither do our listeners. I don’t deal with giant corporations looking to “greenwash” their images at our listener’s expense. I deal with people just like you: members of the community committed to supporting the access, training, and programming that KBOO provides every hour of every day. That is a job that makes me very proud, indeed.
So next time you are considering a purchase or service, consider choosing a KBOO underwriter (kboo.fm/underwriters). And if you own a business I’d love to talk with you about promoting your work to the KBOO Community. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at 503/231-8032; by email to underwriting [at] kboo.org; or by pointing your browser to kboo.fm/underwriting.
