On today's show, we welcome Aaron Adams and Liz Crain, authors of the new cookbook Fermenter: DIY Fermentation for Vegan Fare, from Sasquatch Books.
Aaron is owner/chef of Fermenter and the new Workshop Food & Drink restaurants in Portland. He grew up in the East Bay, where he entered the local punk scene, joined a group of anti-racist skinheads, and watched a lot of cooking shows on the local PBS station. Aaron started cooking professionally in Seattle, then made stops in Guam, Miami, New York, and Jacksonville Florida, before landing here in Portland.
Liz is a PDX-based food writer and author. Her books include Food Lover’s Guide to Portland, Toro Bravo, Hello! My Name Is Tasty, Grow Your Own: Understanding, Cultivating, and Enjoying Cannabis, and most recently Dumplings Equal Love. Liz also co-organizes the annual Portland Fermentation Festival, which takes place this year on Thursday, October 19th.
Gregory Gourdet, Top Chef all-star and owner of Portland’s award-winning Kann restaurant, writes: “Fermenter is hands-down one of my favorite restaurants in the country. I learned new things in every single recipe of this vital cookbook.”
