On today's hour-long Winter Membership Drive special, we welcome Rene Denfeld, author of the new novel Sleeping Giants, from Harper Collins. Rene’s previous novels include The Butterfly Girl and The Child Finder, which feature private investigator Naomi Cottle, aka the Child Finder. Her debut novel The Enchanted, earned the prestigious French Prix Award and an ALA Medal for Excellence in Fiction. She’s also published in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. and the New York Times named her a 2017 hero of the year. Rene lives here in Portland and is the proud mother of three children, now adults, adopted from the foster program.
In the words of Rebecca Solnit, “Rene Denfeld keeps writing books I have to read in one sitting because I can’t stop. Like her previous books, Sleeping Giants has the pace and excitement of a thriller but the compassion and generosity that can otherwise seem so antithetical to the genre as it enters into the lives of an adopted and an institutionalized child, and those of other people who are somehow stranded, bereft, or disconnected.”
Rene will be reading, and signing books, at Powell's City of Books in downtown Portland on Tuesday, March 26th at 7PM.
