On today's episode, we welcome Daniel A. Olivas, author of the new novel Chicano Frankenstein from Portland’s Forest Avenue Press. Daniel’s the author of 12 books, including the story collections How to Date a Flying Mexican and the upcoming My Chicano Heart: New and Collected Stories of Love and Other Transgressions. His articles on culture and literature have appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Los Angeles Times, Alta Journal, Jewish Journal, Zócalo, and The Guardian. He writes regularly for La Bloga, an online site dedicated to Latinx literature and the arts.

In addition to his work as fiction writer, essayist, poet, playwright, and editor of anthologies, Daniel’s a land use and conservation attorney. I should also mention that Daniel and I both graduated Stanford University, and worked on the humor magazine there, the Chaparral. Which may explain why Chicano Frankenstein is not only a moving and insightful book, but at times a very funny one as well.
