Woody Biomass is being promoted as a carbon neutral climate solution. Proposals for industrial scale wood pellet projects are popping up in California and Washington State, that claim they will help to protect forests and benefit rural communities—as well as combat climate change. But past experience with similar projects in the Southeastern United States and British Columbia debunk these claims.
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Rita Frost, Forest Advocate with the Natural Resources Defense Council, about Golden State Natural Resources wood pellet projects proposed for two Northern California counties. These mega facilities would produce up to one million tons of wood pellets to be burned in industrial power plants in Europe and Asia.
