Graphic for Willamette Radio Workshop's "The Wind That Shakes the Corn"

We lost our good friend Sam A. Mowry a few months ago. Sam was a towering figure here in Portland, as an actor, both on stage and behind the microphone, a director, and a giant of radio theater, especially in his role as Artistic Director of the group he founded, Willamette Radio Workshop.

Sam loved Halloween, and producing audio tales of terror for the occasion. While he’s no longer with us, his work lives on, and we continue the tradition on tonight’s News In Depth.

We present for your enjoyment Willamette Radio Workshop’s production of “The Wind that Shakes the Corn”, which originally aired on KBOO’s Stage and Studio. Adapted for radio by William S. Gregory, the piece features Sam as our narrator, along with the voices of Janet Penner, Kobal and Toni Lima, Cynthia McGean, James Lawrence, and Chris Porter. With original music by Martin John Gallagher. Produced and directed by Sam, who also contributed some amazing sound effects.

It's a radio tale of terror, guaranteed to send chills down your spine.

Stay tuned for KBOO’s special Halloween night programming, which goes from 7 to midnight. Oh, and remember to get the apple cider for the party tonight, but for heaven’s sake, stay out of the corn field!
