Casey Lowe, also known by some as their artist name kc lo, is a Portland, Oregon based artist
whose mediums include mixed media drawing, painting, and poetry. Their visual subjects
include expressive figure, self-portraiture, minimal line work, and a queer aesthetic and
perspective.
Casey’s art explores themes of introspection, masculinity and femininity, relational intimacy,
queer identity, and the solitude of a spiritual awakening. Influenced by figurative works by Egon
Schiele, Gustav Klimt, as well as the relational and interior compositions of Edward Hopper,
Casey explores a quiet self-study through expressive line and intentional color stories. From
their background being raised in the LDS church in Utah, through their transformative move to
the Pacific Northwest, Casey explores their unfolding of identity and transformative relationship
experiences through their figure works and poetry.
Casey regularly shows their work around pop-up markets, group shows, and businesses in and
around the Portland area. They sell prints of their work on the website Society 6, and have been
featured in Society 6’s quarterly magazine. Recently, Casey’s drawings and poetry have been
featured in Skull crushing Hummingbird, a lit and poetry zine. Casey’s drawings have been
featured in an independent film, Cubby.
Casey studied painting and drawing in his home state of Utah at the University of Utah, and
received a Bachelor of Science in Arts and Letters at Portland State University in 2022. He
currently works for a library, and lives with his partner Alexander, and their black cat Wanda.
