On today's show, we welcome Miriam Gershow, author of the new novel Closer from Regal House Publishing. Miriam’s books include the novel The Local News and the story collection Survival Tips, which was a finalist for the 2025 Oregon Book award in fiction, an Independent Publisher Book Awards Silver Medalist, and winner of the PenCraft Awards Best Book for Short Stories. Her fiction has appeared in The Georgia Review, Gulf Coast, and Black Warrior Review, among other journals. And she’s published her flash fiction and creative nonfiction in numerous journals and anthologies. Miriam currently teaches at the University of Oregon.
In the words of writer David Bradley, "This novel is amazing!.. In powerful prose vignettes that read like poems, Gershow rounds up the usual suspects-race, gender, generation, religion, income, disability, sexuality -- but gives voice and perspective to characters who insist on being human, often maddeningly so.”
