Portland mayor Sam Adams declared this past Saturday (April 18th) to be Record Store Day. Good thing, too, because we were already celebrating it on a national level. The cynics will sneer about a last minute cash-grab attempt from a dying industry, but the aficionados will be raving about the rare releases that came from it!
I checked out the festivities at 3 local record stores: Everyday Music, Jackpot Records downtown, and Music Millenium. It was heartening to see these stores full of people, and there were alot of freebies and giveaways. I picked up quite a few things, all of which I’ll be playing tomorrow on my show: exclusive 7″ & 12″, and cd’s from the likes of Sonic Youth, Jenny Lewis, Depeche Mode, Thermals, Flight Of The Conchords, Pavement, The Decemberists, and more!
