Host Dab Steadman talks with Dr. Birute Galdikas, the world's foremost expert on orangutans. For more than four decades, Dr. Galdkas has studied and worked closely with these great apes in their native habitat in Indonesian Borneo. She has been on the cover of National Geographic magazine twice and the subject of countless articles in leading newspapers, as well as being featured on several TV documentaries. Dr. Galdikas has authored numerous scientific papers and four books, including her fascinating autobiography called "Reflections of Eden". In addition, she has been awarded for her outstanding achievements by many conservation groups worldwide. As founder and president of Orangutan Foundation International, this compassionate scientist has studied orangs longer than anyone ever has...and has worked ceaselessly to save these rare apes and their forest habitats.
This interview focuses on Dr. Galdikas' work with the orangutans at Camp Leakey and the challenges that they face trying to survive in a rapidly changing environment.
