Jan Haaken and Frann Michel review and recommend the science fiction comedy film Sorry to Bother You, written and directed by Boots Riley. They discuss code switching and the use of white voice. They note that it fails the Bechdel test and the female character does resemble the manic pixie dream girl but it’s an excellent portrayal of labor and labor organizing and of surreal life under contemporary capitalism.
After the first 15 minutes of their discussion, they turn to a consideration of the ending (spoilers ahead). For a spoiler-free version of this review, skip the last part of this audio, or listen to the version included as part of this full episode.
