First, we'll be joined by Virginia Durost, Director of Operations for Hollywood Theatre/Movie Madness. Hollywood Theatre hosts the Queer Commons PDX film series. Queer Commons is showing Just Friends on Wednesday, August 15th, a "romantic comedy about two young men, their relationship and their relationship with their mothers."
Next, we'll chat with Araguaney Rodriguez Da Silva, of Basic Rights Oregon (BRO). BRO organizes a yearly performance showcase, Front & Center, featuring queer and trans artists of color. This year's Front & Center will be on August 23rd, and performer Lexi Adsit will headline.
We'll then chat with Bertony Faustin, proprietor of Abbey Creek Vineyard. He is the creator of the film Red, White & Black: an Oregon Wine Story. "The purpose of Red White & Black is to tell the story of minority winemakers in Oregon. To highlight those people who are deeply entrenched, have their livelihood on the line but somehow are missed by the press and not often included openly in the larger Oregon wine community. This is to tell the story of what life is like, what hurdles, acceptances, challenges and opportunities exist. To share what it is like to be a person of color or LGBT in a generally white, high brow industry." Red, White & Black shows next at the Clinton Street Theater on Friday, August 17th.
Next, Tina Cruz will join us in the studio. She is a director/host of Portland's Queer Poetry Takeover. Tina describes QPT as "everyone's favorite, cozy, queer open mic. Come in with your feelings all rattling around! Safe space, nice people, open hearts. Bring poems, stories, or songs to share! No cover. Wine, beer, and cider available." QPT's next open mike is Thursday, August 16th at Devil's Den, 1520 NE Alberta.
