Rates of smoking have decreased across the US, but tobacco is still around us, everywhere. The Q Center's new policy on tobacco use at its facility brings us to today's discussion of tobacco use in the community: who uses it, and why? What are the local public health policies that address tobacco use by queer and trans people? How do such policies address the use of tobacco in traditional native settings?

Joining us are:

Cameron Whitten, executive director of the Q Center

Becky Wright, Multnomah County Tobacco Control and Prevention Program Specialist

Dr. Angela Carter, of the Equi Institute. The Equi Institute & Sacred Vessel Natural Medicine clinic is dedicated to "enriching the health of the Trans, Queer, Gender non-conforming and Intersex communities through trauma-informed care, culturally competent medical services and social justice advocacy."

Next up, we'll talk with Rusty Tennant, the Artistic Director of Fuse Theatre Ensemble. They have an MFA in Directing and Performance from the University of New Orleans.

Rusty serves as the Technical Director at Reed College and is a regular adjunct faculty and guest artist at multiple local colleges and universities. They are also the Producing Artistic Director of The OUTwright Theatre Festival, a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ contribution to theatre that is held annually in Portland, OR.  They have won two Drammy awards in design, a Storer Boone Award for Directing, and an OOBR award for performing in The American Globe’s Hamlet. The OutWright Festival is held in June and this year is hosted by the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center.

As we do, music on today's program is "Spacer" by Sheila and B. Devotion.
