Lower Snake River Dams

For decades tribal nations and salmon advocates have been working every avenue to take down the four dams on the Lower Snake River. These dams provide a modicum of electricity, negligible passage for shipping and some irrigation water for farmers. But mostly they kill salmon. Yet after decades of inaction, there is finally real momentum and cause for hope.

On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Kate Murphy, Columbia Riverkeeper community organizer, and Kayeloni Scott, Communications Manager for the Nez Perce Tribe, about the plan that Washington Governor Jay Inslee and Senator Patty Murray will release this summer for replacing the services provided by the Snake River dams so that the dams can be breached, as well as the recent the White House announcement that it is working with Columbia Basin Tribes to develop a “durable path forward” on this issue.

Rally to Un-dam the Snake River and Stop Extinction: A festive land and water event to raise awareness and show support for Snake River dam removal.
