Join us this week for some hot licks uncovered on AirPlay Direct, a music sharing site for community radio. Kicking things off is an a cappela Gospel tune called "Brother Have You Heard" from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. And we have discovered a wonderful new talent on the banjo by the name of Kristin Scott Benson, (pictured) with a lovely tune called "Traveler's Rest". We also showcase a pair of tunes featuring David Grisman, one a duet with John Sebastian of the old blues number "I"m Satisfied", the other a rousing raveup with Vince Gill, Herb Pedersen and Emory Gordy called "My Walking Shoes". We also find room for a few John Prine tunes, including a great rendition of "Paradise" by Gary Brewer & the Kentucky Ramblers featuring young special guest EmiSunshine who sings this song like she owns it.
There's also a couple Woody Guthrie tunes, Ramblin' Jack Elliott's version of "Pastures of Plenty" and the late Nanci Griffith and Guy Clark teaming up on "Do-Re-Mi", perhaps one of Woody's most whimsical tunes about the Okies and the Dust Bowl. We've also got some great cover versions of songs by Joni Mitchell, Gram Parsons, John Lennon and Robert Earl Keen, Jr., so tune in and check it out.
