The Portland Public School District presented data at Monday's School Board Meeting that students of color are more likely to be disciplined, and disciplined more harshly than white students. Strikingly, African American students were 4.1 times more likely to be suspended or expelled than their white counterparts, and were also high for Latino and Native American students. School Board members are looking for ways to reduce these numbers, and make school a positive experience for students of all racial groups.
