With Esperanza Spalding's "Best New Star" grammy,
and the 2011 PDX Jazz Festival about to start Friday 2/18,
it is truly a great time for jazz in Portland.
My first guest, Don Lucoff, Managing Director of the Festival,
will bring music of four groundbreaking groups appearing at the Festival:
-3 Cohens
-Anat Fort
-Afro-Semitic Experience
-Nik Bartsch's Ronin
My second guest, vocalist Nola Bogle, will highlight
both her upcoming gig, 2/23, at Wilf's - part of the Festival -
and reflect on her rich legacy in the Portland jazz scene.
My third guest, Nancy King, who's appearing tonight
at Wilf's, and 2/22 (Nancy King Day in Portland) at the Bijou Cafe,
will bring her newly released CD "Perennial" -
and tell stories about it, of course!
Hope you'll join us starting at 2 p.m. today.
