On this episode of the Gap, Tammy and Althea do a local news roundup, discussing Zenith Energy and Portland Street Response. Zenith is an oil terminal in NW Portland that has been determined to be a significant risk to surrounding communities, and generally out of step with Portland's climate goals. Their land use and air permits were denied by the city and state respectively, but it looks like Zenith will fight them all the way, getting to continue operation the whole time. Now that's spooky!
Portland Street Response got the okay from the Department of Justice to start taking suicide calls (provided the police union are okay with it) and we discuss some of PSU's research into the success of the program, which could be going citywide soon.
Then, we ask our listeners about their Halloween plans and get some ideas of what to be (dead fish) and how to gather safely and advocate for strong climate response on this scariest of holidays.
