On this episode of the Gap, Tammy and Althea explore the idea of 'emotional labor.' Though it is often underappreciated, emotional labor is something many people have to do in their jobs and in their day to day lives. That responsibility often falls more heavily on BIPOC individuals, queer people and women. While it may be a good practice not to ask someone to explain their trauma to you in order to humanize them when Google is free, are there people in your circle who deserve the emotional labor? The distribution of this work may not be fair, but it can help move things forward.
We hear from our callers about how they deal with emotional labor, and work together to find new ways of interrupting bad faith discussions before you are totally spent.
